TM3 is a balancer chromosome that stabilizes the third chromosome and carries a mutant Sb (Stubble) and/or a mutant Ser (Serrate) as markers. Sb mutant flies will have shortened (or stubbly) hairs on the back. Ser mutant flies have wings notched at tip. Most balancer chromosomes also carry a recessive allele such as the ebony mutation.
